The key ingredient to making really smooth melted cheese sauce is sodium citrate, or NaCHO as scientists would see it.

Today I discovered, entirely by accident, that a 6 tpi ordinary carbon-steel bandsaw blade has not much trouble going through what must be a 3" or 4" nail. I was recycling old timber and thought I'd completely de-nailed it. No sign of an entry hole or nail head, so a bit of a mystery. The nail was well and truly buried inside a length of 2x2", part of an old gate, and I was putting a 60 degree mitre on the end of it. I guess the nail must have been hammered in the end, along the grain and had the head cut off at some point. No noise or horrible bangs, just a few sparks. Just as well I cleaned the bandsaw out yesterday and was running dust collection or there could have been a fire. I know nail blades cut through nails easily but I'm surprised that an ordinary and fairly coarse wood blade did.

I described a freak accident in WGYG thread. The light fitting that fell was itself badly damaged, so I went to the local wholesale electrical shop for repair bits. I was discussing what I needed with the assistant when a 'proper' sparks chipped in with some advice.
I took his advice, and now I have much better lighting than I had and spent hardly any more than fixing up the old fitting.
Thanks to that knowledgable stranger!!

I was sat having a coffee outside my camper this morning around 8 am ish and a chap approached asking if I had a foot pump as he had a flat tyre. I told him I had an electric pump but as he was unsure how to use it, I went and inflated his tyre for him and he was massively grateful as he was off somewhere.
About 2 hours later he came back to my van with a bottle of wine for me "for being a life saver"> did my best to refuse it and told him I really don't expect a gift for doing what anyone would do, but he insisted. I now have a free bottle of wine.

I wasn't judging the quality, it was because Nige sounded like it was unnecessary, so rather than drink it under obligation, spread the joy to another. Years ago I had some car trouble at the side of the road and someone gave me invaluable assistance, so I made sure that when the time came I was able to do the same for someone else. So something like that.
