Tonight in whatever German toon the game was ....held? There might be a few drunk and dizzies but a bitter vicious riot is unlikely. Does that mean Scots drowning their sorrows are less likely to riot than Scots celebrating victory? In the lat 1980s in munich in a taxi with the English (and really nice) Head of Production for the Business Unit I worked for - at a rather lower level- the Taxi driver elicted that we had flown in from Edinburgh. There had been recent footie matches involving bothe the Scots and English teams. There had been trouble after the english match. The Taxi driver said we love the Scots. if they win they have a party. If they lose they have a party, so you are Scots? Ron,somewhat abashed, said Willie is Sc ots I am English - one very emarrased Munich Cabbie. When we got out of the Cab at the fancy hotel we were booked into I said to Ron "I telt ye tae pretend that ye were Scottish". It is not that our footie supporters are, in the round, not free from complete and utter aerosoles, it is just that in internationals they have no expectation of winning so they just go to drink beer, have a good time and be mellow. Edit - if the typos/spellos worry you fix them yourself. Too many for me to be arsed.

They all count, obviously wasn't going to be a Scot that scored for Scotland. Antonio Rudiger is Scotland's joint top scorer in tournament football in the last 25 years.

From a Scottish friend: "aye, we were battered like a Mars bar".

England have scraped a win against Namibia despite the best efforts of the rain to wash us out of the tournament.

And the Aussies did us a favour by dumping Scotland out of the group stages, so we're through to the Super Eight. Yeah, I know T20 isn't "real cricket" but it'll do.
Edit: but who thought it was a good idea to schedule cricket during the Antigua rainy season?

We *just about* scraped a win against Serbia and go to the top of the group. England will need to improve if they hope to go any further.

From a personal perspective, I wouldn’t worry if UK teams were knocked out if it meant that there was no reporting on the rest of the tournament. Unfortunately reporting will continue irrespective of the status of UK teams so winning, and the associated celebration, is better than losing.

How about a specialist "Sport" thread?

How about a specialist "Sport" thread? We've tried that, and everyone who complains about sport in other threads comes into it to complain about sports.

They're still reporting that one time England won something before, nearly 70 years ago. Be careful what you wish for!

Went to the bank and I honestly thought the guy behind the counter fell asleep looking at his monitor. I crouched down in the end to peer at him and try to catch his gaze. Did what I came for and escaped without lectures on account management this time. Phew! I'm sure that teller has a brother working in the Co-op. dour? You could say that.
