Sort of cheerful. I seem to be buying lots of replacement tools which is fun. New physio reckons I can fine-tune my balance by (amongst other things) learning to sit, upright and unsupported, on a wobble cushion on a chair with my toes just clear of the ground (safety - must be able to stabilise if about to fall off). Apparently the brain can rewire some lost balance reflexes if stretched. Chairs are too low and breakfast/bar stools too high, so I decided to make myself a stool of suitable height. Of course I next realise that the legs have to splay out for stability. Hence all the joints are compound angles and need to be morticed and tenoned for strength. Band saw (not touched for 20 years) is now working. Router (not touched for 20 years) is now working and a lot less rusty. Can almost move in the garage after a clear out. Basic cut sections all seem to line up (I'm quite proud of the compound mitre cuts where the legs touch what will be the seat) but jointing the legs into the seat and getting the stretchers right is going to be a major pain. I've never been gifted at this kind of thing so I'm not expecting great things of this first attempt. Practice, practice, practice. I find that glue and sawdust are good for filling gaps in my inexpert timber joints. Its fine for jobs which will be painted. Its not so good for jobs which will be stained and varnished. I usually never get past the sawdust production bit. I've ordered a jig that should enable me to cut compound mortise/tenon joints with the router. It cuts compound angled tenons, mortices are straight. It looks very complicated. I've been trying to mark-up this afternoon and my head hurts. |

Just sold a lawnmower I got for nowt for £20. As I picked it up to sell for the air ambulance I am well pleased. Easiest fiver they've ever earned, right?  Cheeky! I've also sold a scythe for a fiver so they'll get £24 after commission. |

Another title for Man City to be stripped of when their financial fair play cheating case comes to court in 2106 or whenever. More chance of Swindon Town being reinstated to the top flight after they got a 2 league demotion in 1990 for doing the same dodgy player payments as Tottenham Hotspur (who didn't receive any sanctions). |
