It strikes me that Air Fryers are this forum's benches, and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of pics of them in entirely unnatural environments.

The stupid part of me wants to take my air fryer to the park so I can do a long exposure of it coming down the kids' slide. The lazy part of me really really cba!

Just used our one for the first time today with some oven chips. The pack suggested 12 m but the setting on the machine was 29m, which is probably for chips from cut potatoes. I googled for times but the range of times was large. Any recommendations for finding the best settings and/or recipes books?

I find 15 minutes at 200C gives good results but, all air fryers are different. However, I always shake the basket every 5 minutes or so, which means I can gauge when they are nearly done and dish them up at the right time.

Our very basic model makes lovely chips if you preheat it for three minutes (set to 200 degrees) and then set for 15 mins, giving them a good shake midway. My husband invariably sets it for 20 mins because he likes them crunchier than I do. So a lot comes down to how you like your chips but this strikes me as an opportunity to gorge yourself on chips in the name of research!!!

For a 12 minute recommended cooking time I'd start at 8 minutes. Give them a good shake then if they're not done to taste add 2 minutes cooking time. Repeat if necessary. Short of trying to bake a sponge cake or souffle you can apply this principle to anything you put in the air fryer.

Short of trying to bake a sponge cake or soufflé you can apply this principle to anything you put in the air fryer. I think that very much depends on the specific fryer. However, assuming that the required time will be less than stated is an excellent starting point, more so than the other way around.

Here's a challenge for an air fryer versus a convection worktop oven. I am now experimenting with using the oven as a slow cooker. Temperature is set at 90°C and I have a pork kebab stew with veg et al in a lidded earthenware pot inside it. It's a pain to have to keep nipping down every hour to reset the timer, but if it works I'll add an override to the timer to keep the thing on all the time, with a wall switch timer to control it instead.

Or just buy a slow cooker. I appreciate you are not in the uk but mine was around £15 from Tesco (awhile ago) so not expensive.

I've got one - I bought it decades ago, and it's still going strong, all five+ quarts of it! Even a two-nighter supper doesn't get close to the element position. Out here the smallest one can buy is 3.5 litres, and although Amazon do a very nice 1.8 litre one, the shipping is more than the cost of the cooker, and that is something that really gets up my nose!

I think Sqeamish, you just like re-wiring things.
