Old Port Chester. I think I must have taken this on a day out looking for a picture for a theme back in December 2020, it rings some sort of a bell. I just had a quick look at the wikipedia entry for the Chester canal which had a bumpy start circa 1771/72. This was the entry to the river Dee, allowing entry to the canal system from the sea but the River Dee Company managed to restrict the width of the final locks to allow narrow boats only and not the wide berth barges intended. The development was intended to include refurbishment of the locks behind the gates and allow river access again but never happened. There is a steel barrier behind the gates shown and the low bridge carrying a main road prevents access to the final lock which has fallen into total disrepair. The intent to create a little village around the canal hasn't really succeeded. This little old port section links to a much larger set of basins connected to the navigable Ellesmere Port Canal that runs between Ellesmere Port and Ellesmere in Shropshire. On the way to the charity shop this morning after I had bought my new TV and stand. Not that old in years (maybe 10) but in technology years it is ancient. IMG_9947 by Nigel G, on Flickr

I remember my Grandfather having a very similar set in the 70's, as a child the plastic deer antler handles were of great interest.

Zaton Mali IMG_7697editF by Keith Hudson, on Flickr Old tidal water mill at Zaton Mali, Croatia. The area of reeds nearest the camera is the reservoir that fills with sea water at high tide, not that the Med is very tidal.
