I've found religion!
Well, it may not actually be religion because it's got none of the supernatural or regular mumbo-jumbo.
However, it makes perfect sense. I am becoming a Stoic.

I've found Jesus.
He was down the back of the sofa all along.

Surely you mean that you have discovered school of Hellenistic philosophy that helps you understand life, the universe and everything? Or perhaps, like me, you are just getting older and learning to accept some of the problems that entails.

It goes well with pragmatism. It's going to happen with or without your intervention, so roll with it. We have unfortunately reached an age where we've been there, done that, got the t shirt, written the book, sent out the warnings, watched them be ignored and so on and so on. So being a stoic is advisable the older we get. Alternatively just say stuff them all and become a hedonist.

Edit - In the interests of forumic accuracy I should say that "stuff them" is not precisely the expression I use.

I'm not really all that old, at least I don't think so. A spring chicken at 56. And long may it continue. However I am now starting to subscribe to my dad's point of view which he in turn nicked from Arthur Seaton in the film Saturday Night And Sunday Morning. "Don't let the bastards grind you down" feels more satisfying than 'Turn the other cheek'. Particularly if you chuck in a bit of Kate's hedonism too. Not that my knees are up to that much hedonism these days.

My jaw dropped today at the report on the Beeb that 'the yahoo' actually said that killing 6 (unverified) hostages means Hmas doesn't want a ceasefire. So does killing 40.000+ mean they do?

Israel has killed more Israelis in this conflict than Hamas has, both hostages and on the day it began. It (strangely enough) doesn't appear to have been widely reported here but Haaretz and other Israeli media have given it decent coverage.

Oh, and Israel's assassination of the Hamas negotiator was surely a sign of how much Israel wants a ceasefire.

All the above only reinforce my opinion that religion is too dangerous for impressionable children to be exposed to. We try to safeguard them from violence, drugs, etc. (with varying degrees of success) but allow zealots with very unpleasant beliefs access to them so that they are indoctrinated by the time that are teenagers (which is when some parents in the USA buy them assault rifles).
