Nikon Z8, Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6, Nikon TCII 1.7 teleconverter, ISO 1600, Handheld, 1/1250". One of the few birds I find that is sometimes more elegant on the ground than in the air. Dullish evening. What do you think?

What do you think? What do I think? I agree that the Little Egret is a wonderful bird, especially on the water. I remember my delight at the first one I saw, and then my amazement when I realised how pervasive they have become. The photo is competently done as always. The viewpoint seems high, looking down, and Little Egrets, like Great Whites and Grey Herons look less interesting hunched up than when stalking, my own view of course.

Pose is a bit less elegant than it might be but the lighting has at least kept detail in the feathers. If it were my shot I'd definitely be happy with it. We have them round my way too but they tend to keep their distance and I don't really have enough lens length to make up for it...

Thanks for the feedback, which I must say, was very restrained. I was so focussed on getting detail in the white feathers (not easy), that I forgot about composition. I was on a wooden bridge leading over to the Bull Island (a sand spit just off the north east coast of Dublin Bay). I didn't have time to use waders to get out to them, at sea level. This one might be a little better.

I can't believe, Adrian, that I am going to suggest this, but, if you had flipped the first image so that the 'little egret' was facing right, like your second image, it would, IMVHO, been a more pleasing image to view. I think, both images are well shot, exposed, etc..
Cheers,
Jack ......... and I'm about to post a sequence of photos, albeit in separate posts, so revenge will be yours.
