Is it the season of goodwill?
/predictable comment alert/ Bah, humbug.
I believe the correct expression is "Hah, bumhug".

You've totally lost me, with that comment, David. Is it a bit of Edinburgh vernacular - with which I'm not familiar?
(Apologies if I've spoiled the joke. Jokes are less amusing when they have to be explained. )

Andy is the lucky recipient so thanks to all that showed an interest Phew... I don't have to find more cupboard space! And I don't have to explain to SWMBO why I need to find more cupboard space. I said to SWMBO a camera might be coming in the mail and got the look Have fancied an IR camera for years...I blame Nigel and Fen. Hopefully it will be fun at some of my favourite spots in the woods. Have zooms from 17 to 200mm and primes from 24 to 100mm to use with it.

As a general principle at least.

One thing I have noted with my IR camera is that the normal TTL AF is only reliable accurate over a limited focal length range - it seems happy enough with the 17-70 and anything of similar range but outside that I find focusing with live view is a bit more reliable (my 650D doesn't have the AF microadjustment feature). Enjoy.

Enjoy. This is very much the case with converted DSLRs, it's rarely an issue at all with mirrorless bodies. I have a few AF lenses that can't manage infinity focus with an IR filter added, except for that it would never be an issue. The better DSLR converters have the option of sending the lens you intend to use so the IR focus can be recalibrated appropriately. Perhaps this option is not much help if you plan on using multiple lenses. I've used dozens of lenses on each of my full spectrum cameras, and at least 4 on my Foveon models.

Alternatively gift to Andy to add to his system?
If he doesn't mind a lens with lens fungus. (which is actually why the lens didn't go with the rest of my Canon kit, a few years ago). It's probably in better shape than either of my EOS lenses. I'd happily give them away but I don't think they're worth the postage (the cheap film era 28-80 kit lenses, with tacky rubbers & dirty optics)
