Was that way yesterday (funeral) There are some grim places around there, but within minutes you also get lovely looking villages.

Peter Mitchell did a lot of work in London in the '80's around the closing docks and more generally the post war dereliction that was still very evident at the time. He also documented the dock closing in Hull having a big exhibition to coincide with Hull's City of Culture year.

Likewise, Nige. The photos provide a great sense of the social and economic conditions of those times. Great atmosphere... and also those wonderful colours of film.
If we weren't several light-years away from Leeds, I'd be making a point of going to that gallery.

There seems too a bit of a riot in Harehills. The Telegraph HYS has gone mad. Apparently Social services took 5 children away from a Romanian family after a baby was thrown out of a window. Then many others joined in the riot. That Green Party councillor who made an exhibition of himself recently has been seen on site. The photos indeed show a great atmosphere with smoke and flames. More photos on X.

But it's so long ago it's outside the statute of limitations.... Yes I know...

I recall seeing the Tivoli cinema picture before (possibly in AP). I look at the Guardian website regularly, and have recommended it here before. Use the 'Culture' tab and scroll down to 'Pictures & video'. Some of the pictures are larger than you might expect - 1800 or 2000 pixels wide.

I look at the Guardian website regularly as well. It is actually quite good on the arts (well better than the Torygraph). What I find really annoying are the pop-ups reminding me about how many articles I have read and please can I send them money. I take the attitude that if they want to indoctrinate me so much that they let me view for free then why pay. They even let me run an adblocker. I do pay the Torygraph but I would not pay for the Guardian.

I love the Guardian article it’s taken me half an hour to get through it as I kept going down wormholes searching stuff for the photos
