I have spent some time re editing some photo's using the generative fill in PS. It started with this one for the current monthly theme, then I just went through Flickr, seeing what else I could mess with using a similar theme, although a couple are only small changes. I know some will think it is cheating, adding something that I didn't capture but hey ho, it is here to stay and I think if used for "art" it is fine. Thoughts on the changes? The changes seem very credible. The exercise usefully shows how important the initial composition is - supposing that the larger picture was available at the time.

All really good, but prefer the last image (lady on chair) in the original format

Although it's done by smart-alec software is it really that much different to what a painter can do? Infrared and X-ray studies of more than a few old landscapes have sown that they often moved, removed or added various bits of the scene...
Have to disagree with Fen, I like the edit even better than the original.

For documentary not OK. For art do whatever you like.

I think the originals all look better as presented than expanded, presumably because the addition unbalances the composition.

Can the software replace the plastic patio chair with a deckchair? The result could then be a comment of our current weather.

Can the software replace the plastic patio chair with a deckchair? The result could then be a comment of our current weather. The original shot included that chair because I found it on the beach as we were walking along. I wanted my wife to sit in the sea in a throne, turning back the waves, which in turn reminded me of the song "Enjoy the silence" by Depeche Mode. Anyway, to answer your question, yes it can and I asked it do it in colour for you too! Red, whiteand blue deckchair by Nigel G, on Flickr
