My husband bought a print of that portrait, at auction, many moons ago (Amersham auctions). I hated it. I hung it in the diningroom out of sight and my back to it when I ate. |

I find her face, hair and eyes rather attractive but the shoulders are too broad almost like a montage of different sketches or preliminaries put together by an apprentice. Perhaps other less modest versions existed which have been re worked to what we see today or it may be that we are viewing from the wrong angle, I don't think it would have been intended to be hung on the top row in a gallery though your experience at home would rule that one out. |
