It is a real memory lane today - this one from 2011 is the best [only] one that I can find that shows the defensive ditch around Stokesay castle. It is a fortified manor with a huge barn attached. I guess in times of peril everything from the surrounding district got brought inside and they shut the doors. BV9R0021.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Both a man made physical boundary and a recently crossed boundary. Hadrian's Wall IMG_3857editBW by Keith Hudson, on Flickr Syca (no) more gap, Hadrian's Wall. Site of the famous tree felled 28th September 2023. The stump remains protected by a fence in the hope that new growth will appear.

Apparently there are signs of growth from the seeds taken from the site.

The boundary wall in Piccadilly Gardens Manchester, separating the "gardens" from the bus station. An eyesore which I think might actually have been removed now. Pigeon at the wall by Nigel G, on Flickr

The only shot of one of these in motion that I have got. However, I have seen a modern one ridden, I stepped aside on a shared cycle/footpath down the out-of-town retail park to allow one pass - it was not full size. I also saw (circa 2019, say) on two occasions a unicyclist, wheel size about the same as the scaled down penny-farthing (maybe 36 - 40") on a shared space cycle-route that is about an 18 mile ride if you do the whole thing. 274A0315.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

They used to be all the rage. We had one of these, over 40 years ago now. 274A0327.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
