For absolute abstraction I guess without, then it becomes a picture entirely about tone , colour and serenity. In the first version the marker provides a point of reality to anchor the picture into the real world.
What I might have been inclined with the first version to do is lose the diagonal beam and the short post and concentrate purely on the upright marker itself.

Without, although I might be tempted to put the horizon in the middle.

I think the issue is there's definition in the near water but not further out. With no definition in the sky the true minimalist take is cropped squarish with horizon in middle as suggested, and without the thingy.

I like it with, however the small post at the bottom of the diagonal distracts from the simplicity I think.

I like the with better thought I am conflicted, is the horizon level or is the post not vertical? Or are they both 'correct' and the diagonal on the post throws the eye? Unlike dans I don't dislike the little post holding up the diagonal.

Thanks for the comments folks. Scrolling the image on my phone to level it with the top of the browser frame, Iβd say it is level. Perhaps the change in blue of the sea close to the horizon might make it look off?
I still canβt decide which one I prefer as each has its own merits I guess.
