I've decided to give woodworking another go. I don't know how long it will last because I get fed up [with anything I do] if it doesn't go well. Spent this afternoon preparing fresh wood after I cut a tenon to 20 mm instead of 14 mm. No idea why I made the mistake. Nearly repeated it after transferring similar measurements wrongly (again) but luckily I was cutting in steps and thought the first step felt wrong - it went 13 mm - so phew! Got visited by a Vole, I think. Too big for a mouse. It had white fur all around its mouth. At first I thought it had a mouthful of nesting material. No pics sadly. Hope it decides to leave the garage before I shut the door.

In late autumn and winter it's hedge-laying with hand tools for me. I started after after early retirement. I am not fast enough to do it as a job although at 25 guineas per yard am tempted. I sometimes joke that my efforts at the midlands bullock hedge would struggle to contain a Dexter bullock (I have seen one and they are still heavier than me). Incidently some people of my age play trains here www.gcrn.co.uk/ . We get on well. Usually.

I make most of the buildings at 1:148 scale (N gauge) on layouts from A4 sheets of card covered with scale brick or stone work images printed on self adhesive A4 labels; the card is cut using a plotter cutter (like a plotter but fitted with a blade instead of a pen) Windows and doors I buy etched brass ones "glass" for windows from OHP transparency sheets or clear plastic from packaging, other things bought include cast or 3D printed items like chimneys, gate posts, stone walling, bay windows. The brick and stonework images are downloaded, colours and scale I can modify using Picture Publisher; I also cheat getting door and window apertures accurate by scanning the etches and using the outline when doing the generation of the design for the plotter cutter.
Some of the parts.

Some of the parts assembled, some of those on the rear row are from kits, so not "all my own work"

Gardening and cricket for me. No wickets today but 11 runs at an extremely unaccustomed No 2.

You made those, Willie? FFS - your talent was wasted in the legal profession (or whatever it was that you did )...!!

You made those, Willie? FFS - your talent was wasted in the legal profession (or whatever it was that you did )...!! Yes. All pictures of the one guitar. Not the prettiest one but the prettiest I have photographed.
You should see some of my more imaginative warranty clauses.
Edit - FWIW, I was an "in-house" not a member of the legal profession as such.
