When I first moved to Edinburgh as a student there were still loads of pubs tied to the now defunct Edinburgh Usher's brewery which even managed to completely screw up its Norseman Lager. Having a taste for Guiness was a necessity for survival. Wiltshire's Ushers brewery was moved lock, stock, and bog roll to Pyongyang. No wonder they all look jolly in those propaganda videos

Wiltshire's Ushers brewery was moved lock, stock, and bog roll to Pyongyang. No wonder they all look jolly in those propaganda videos They took everything from the Trowbridge brewery. Paper cups, toilet seats, and anything that wasn't nailed down. North Korean Red River beer is based on an Ushers recipe. Kim Jong Il liked a drink. They even converted an airliner to smuggle vodka in.

The Co-op's selection is so non-existent (OK, sparse) that I asked the check out guy where they were. He didn't know. I then asked a friend on the paper counter. She called someone and he came to escort me to the tiny section of low/non alcoholic beers. I only recognised San Miguel and a German sounding name (lot of KKs) and all of them sold in packs of four. I'd be as well to go for a normal sized bottle and drink it over a couple of days! Anyway, if I find myself in Tesco I'll see what they have got. I've just squeezed a clementine into a glass and added water. Nice a fresh. I sucked the clementine and it was good.

^ There we are then. Clemenite, one of your 5-a-day fruit&veg and no doubt much better for you than a glass of alcohol, or some chocolate....
however it may not taste like something better.....

I’m still promoting water 💦 not ya fancy bottled stuff but plain old tap water Our tap water has more than a delicate hint of chlorine. It isn't bad after adding a splash of lime cordial. Without the addition it is unpleasant.

A couple of glasses of white or red in a week, other than that it's water with a slice of cucumber or lemon.

Getting back to the thread titie - have you considered Crystal Meths? Now put everyone in the country who is not working on as much crystal meth as they like, (I mean all including working age and pensioners and especially prisoners) then you would save taxpayers a bomb.

I prefer Spanish white plonk. It's only 10% by vol alcohol and quaffable enough.

I have reduced my consumption of white wine to almost nothing. I find that with those meals that go well with dry white wine, water slightly flavoured with Rose's lime cordial is quite acceptable. I find a bit of unsweetened lemon juice makes the local water far more palatable.

The Nazis tried it in world war 2. Housewives were encouraged to use it.
