Listening to the news, prompted me to type out some more of dad's diary.
Here he is in Tel Aviv. October 1945.
Diary of Murdo Macleod
October 1945
21 Sun
Our night somewhat disturbed but only by bugs. 6th Airborne Division lads come in to protect us. On listening watch all the time. Visit in the evening from Maj Gen Le Bor GOC 6th Airborne Div.
22 Mon
Tremendously heavy rain. Still at our vantage point in Tel Aviv four storeys up on Citrus House. Confined to our sky scraper home but we always have a good view of the town. Tension still sometimes but no incidents reported.
23 Tue
Still in Tel Aviv
I know now that I will definitely not be here by 9th January. Again on the trail of the Jewish pirate stations. Still no mail. Phone call received from Janet in Coy Office - 2 letters and a telegram for me. Colin OK.
24 Wed
How happy I am to hear Colin OK. Phone call to come in for my medical exam on Friday. Cannot understand however Helen is ill and in bed. Still worried. Only set (radio) in Palestine to catch the 'ghost' broadcasts.
25 Thu
Still in Tel Aviv and still four storeys up on the roof. Wegar goes sick. Barclay now with me. Peter rings up from Haifa to say goodbye. He leaves tomorrow.
26 Fri
Medical examination. Motored to Sarafand but my medical examination postponed till Tuesday morning. Came back by Agrabat Mills. In Tel Aviv in afternoon. First time for a long while.
27 Sat
Still on duty at Citrus House. More rain. No Skylark (radio broadcasts) comparatively quiet day. No mail. Quiet stroll into town and then to bed.
Week summary.
Very interesting duty at Tel Aviv. Glad to hear Colin recovering, but worried about Helen's accident. Peter Irvine leaves for the UK.
