I think that Kate's series right at the beginning of this quarter really told us a story - a very poignant one, beautifully told. Kate, would you like to choose another theme for the next quarter?

Thank you Kath -- and no, I missed this completely. I didn't think we were carrying on with it. I live such a dull life I really have lost all inspiration! So if you have any good ideas, please take over.

I'm sure you can think of something better! I might put something like that in the monthly one. Ha! By the way, it's Shore not Shaw (see title). I really mean it. I can't think of anything inspiring.

I received books, and birthday money that I spent on books, at the end of June and I'm itching to make work inspired by them. The first is STILL, The Art of Noticing by Mary Jo Hoffman and it is a huge collection of beautifully made photographs of 'found nature', collected daily and photographed on a plain white background. It is ten years of daily photographs and necessarily follows the seasons. In the centre is a pullout double page spread itemising 24 Sekki and 72 Ko (seasons and micro seasons). For the next quarter she lists the following: TIME OF LIGHT (Meadows turn bright with wildflowers, Musk thistles nod on hillsides, dragonflies patrol marshes), TIME OF HEAT (Painted turtles bask on logs, blueberries fatten, cricket choruses throb at twilight)....all the way through to TIME OF HARVEST (wild rice scatters in canoe bottoms, smell of woodsmoke and fallen leaves, squirrells cache nuts). Now obviously microseasons rather depend on where you live but perhaps a theme for the next three months could be noticing and photographing your own versions of microseasons? (Where I am we might have 'Scottish families migrate and leave the town empty in search of cheaper holidays' followed two weeks later by 'Seagulls fatten on English tourists' chips'. Or something more poetic than that!) www.amazon.co.uk/STILL-Noticing-Mary-Jo-Hoffman/dp/1580936334/ref=asc_df_1580936334/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=697321129874&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13513310285047613346&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046985&hvtargid=pla-2271421830953&psc=1&mcid=6048ae75fc83312b9fe3159e97c1b6e4&th=1&psc=1&gad_source=1My next two books were from the same author/publisher - The Gourmand's Egg and The Gourmand's Lemon. I don't know if there will be more in the offing or not but I do hope so. Each takes one ingredient (egg, lemon) and presents a glorious collection of stories, artworks, history, use in popular culture, recipes, photographs. They are an absolute joy. We could choose to pick one ingredient and present our findings. This could include more than just photographs - perhaps we could include writing (our own, or reference others' work), paintings, news stories, our own photographs or images we're inspired by that feature our ingredient? thegourmand.co.uk/products/copy-of-the-gourmands-eggthegourmand.co.uk/products/the-gourmands-lemonAnd finally, a book called Everyday Play - A Campaign Against Boredom. There's nothing about photography in this book as such but there are lots of games to play to get your creative juices flowing. One is a version of a popular 'family game' which involves being given a collection of random words and then having to make sentences out of them which somehow, in their limited capacity, relate to a described topic. (The advert for the family game shows someone's answer to 'Disadvantages of being a ghost' as 'Limited sex and virtually no cheese'.) I thought we could do our own version where by we photograph examples of words found in our various locations and then order them to make some sort of statement/story? www.theredstoneshop.com/products/everyday-playIf anyone has any other ideas, do please share!

Sorry Kath I thought of something and posted it. It is rather similar to your first suggestion, so hope it is OK.
