Anyone committed to doing a 365 project (daily photo) of some sort? I reckon I can handle a week, maybe a month at a push, but would have to rely on mobile phone camera for a lot of it.

No. Did it once, found it too stressful. What I want to do next year is put together a book of pics of the week, and one vintage camera pic per month. That I feel I can manage.

The idea is good but I doubt I'd last very long. I have always intended to take a new photo for the daily thread but never really managed it.

I prefer the thought of a project you can think about over 365 days and have a small selection at the end of it.

No way! I canāt cope with taking any kind of picture on purpose. I doubt I could cope with an hour of a project without having a total meltdown.

Pros have to work to a client's agenda, but us amateurs are in the position of not having to do that. I quite often think "it would be nice to have some shots of XYZ - I'll have a go this weekend", but I would get terminally bored trying to do that same thing for a year. Lack of moral fibre, I guess!

I couldnāt do it. I might take some photographs most days but I donāt think I would enjoy forcing myself to take some/one every day.

Sort of defeats the idea of it being a hobby! Not at all. I like taking photos while I walk about, and I like sorting through what I have that might match a daily/monthly theme. I canāt go out and take a picture to order - and the harder I try the more impossible it becomes.

Mobile phone pictures have been good since the Nokia N95, even earlier if you include lofi pictures. I sold my N95 earlier this year but still have the iPhone 5S that replaced it, some photos using the 5S were more to my liking than on my current 12pro as the more modern phone tries not to let you make errors such as vertical sweep panoramas. The 5S is used as a remote control for my music streamer so can be brought out of photo retirement should the urge take me.

The in ability or lack of desire to take photos to order was one of the main reasons why I quickly dropped taking pictures as a career all those years ago. That and realising that I did not have the gift of the gab to be any more than a high street or at best commercial / pack shot photographer.

I've never tried 365 but have done 52 week projects in the past which was just about manageable. My best year was one where my project was lone trees in black and white but without any specified output frequency. I agree with Kate's comment about working on the project through the year and then collating the best pictures.

Must admit that put me off even thinking about going pro for years - but I find I have a completely different mindset when I'm being paid than when it's hobby photography. Also, it's a lot easier because what I'm shooting professionally is dictated to me rather than relying on me to find and shoot a subject. Maybe that explains the mindset difference? Whatever, I don't have days when I'm lacking the ability to take my pro shots, I do often have days when I'm lacking creativity for personal stuff.

I signed up for a 365 challenge some years back. Let's just say I'm glad we had a cat at the time otherwise there would have been plenty of days when I'd have been stuck for the time, and a subject, to photograph.
Never again, once was enough. When you are full time employed, leave home about 7am and don't get back until 6pm or later, it's difficult

Whatever, I don't have days when I'm lacking the ability to take my pro shots, I do often have days when I'm lacking creativity for personal stuff. I can see that. Personally I have no artistic creativity what so ever. Photographically I make records. In doing so I can be analytic in editing a composition and getting what I think is a reasonable result. I get pleasure from the results nevertheless. I have covered set events for work when asked but thatās not creative, for example a bloke on a podium giving a talk is a given subject. Technically the requirement is to hit the pauses so that he/she is looking up, doesnāt have a stupid expression, and the arms arenāt thrashing about. Iām completely in awe of what, for example, Kate and Kath can do. It is another planet to me.
