Think there's one in the back of the car, can't honestly remember the last time I used it, possibly for some light painting
Most of the stuff I do can be done handheld with the help of some pretty good OIS. I think it's one of the major innovations of modern lenses. Quite remarkable bit of tech

Handheld 1/3s Not that exciting a shot but it got 35k views just because it was tagged IOS and I guess people were researching what it does . The lens was just a cheap 15-45 IOS Fuji Attachment Deleted

I've just seen this: www.bounetphoto.com/bounet-designs-analog-shop which appears to be much less fiddly. Without actually going through checkout I don't know how much the shipping/tax will be, but $60 seems comparable with a MOD54 unless my memory is way off?

Following on from the decent tripod thread a very simple and related question. Personally, alternatively I have a number of tripods I very rarely use one. I find them inconvenient and, mostly, unnecessary because I want the freedom to move around. I also like to visit places where they are discouraged. The last time I used one was in June at my father-in-law’s 80th. Do you use one regularly or not and why, if you feel like saying. Hi Geoff, I've never owned a tripod in my 37 1/2 years of fauxtography and have used a tripod, but, twice in life .. the first time was about 5 months after getting a SLR and it was to thin to hold my K1000 w/ 50/2 ... so I handheld it and, ironically, sold my first snap The second time I used a tripod was so I could hold my Pentax Q and Photosniper 300/4.5 just to see what I was trying to snap . I have used a monopod on numerous occasions in the past and, especially, when shooting football (both UK/European and North American versions). As for the tripod or, rather, the lack thereof, I have tens of thousands of snaps where I, definitely, should have used a tripod and, because of those, I have sold, probably, thousands of tripods ..... well, at least, hundreds Why not use a tripod, mainly because I started shooting spot new events and carrying around a tripod was not really feasible and, subsequently, never bought/used one Cheers, Jack

I suppose that someone should have expressed the opinion that a bad tripod is probably worse than no tripod. Mick Got that covered in my way too long diatribe, Mick Cheers, Jack

Looks like I'm going to have to find and dust off the tripod next Tuesday for a still life shoot, if I can be a** ed to take the thing
Or maybe do what I usually do, handheld and bump up the ISO Always think pots with flowers stuck in look better with a bit of noise
Anyway, laziness can be justified by artistic expression

I suppose that someone should have expressed the opinion that a bad tripod is probably worse than no tripod. Mick I did a double take at the tripod-in-use picture on last week's AP cover which had a camera fitted with a large telephoto zoom mounted on a tripod with the column at full extension. Definitely not the way to use a tripod. On the article inside it became apparent why. The advice was to use a tripod (good) but the model used for the illustration (taking a picture through a kitchen window) couldn't see out of the window without bending down. The kitchen must have been a cottage extension with a low ceiling because there are not so many 7' tall men around.

I'd be more worried that it would appear that they appear to be looking through a viewfinder but the rear LCD is on (and would surely offer a better view anyhow for that type of usage).

Never occurred to me. I would use a right-angle finder and look down into it rather than stoop to peer through the viewfinder. If I’m birding with a telephoto then I use a gimbal head which lifts the camera significantly, to my eye-height, with no need to raise the column, but I’m only 5’11”.
