The only fish pictures I have are those caught by birds. This Heron was being very successful at "the far end" in Bodnant garden to the detriment of the fish. I was a bit surprised to see them. The river (stream really) is blocked by a very tall weir downstream of this point so there is no possibility of fish coming upstream. I've only ever seen one eel in it, well downstream of the weir and by the old mill house. Otters have come up river to the mill house and taken all the koi from the ornamental ponds. I can't find out when the weir was built but the National Trust website puts the development of "the far end" as turn of the century (1900) so presumably fish populations date from then. I can't trace the origin of the river (stream) to a lake. Presumably it is a spring or arises as drainage from the hill tops. 274A7154-Enhanced-NR.jpg by Pete, on Flickr 274A7159-Enhanced-NR.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Thanks to Mike for the reminder. I had quite forgotten aquaria. It seems I have culled quite heavily because I thought I had quite a few from our last family visit to the Blue Planet. Seems all I have left is some Piranha and a lot of pics of the grandchildren. All a bit soft at 1/20 s with a 200 mm lens on APS-C and ISO 3200/6400. I thought I also had some from the National Marine Aquarium (that's quite big) at Plymouth but a search threw up very little. Shown before. Greater Blackbacked Gull robbed this off of a Cormorant and hadn't a clue. I don't think the cormorant would have had much chance either. Weir on the river Dee at Chester. BV9R0129-Enhanced-NR.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Abit too far and too cropped to put up on Flickr though still a nice shot of a grebe necking a fish. They really are enchanting birds

Not according to one of my primary school classmates, who insisted they were snakes.
