This is an old one - 2008 - probably the weekend after I started work in Brussel. How many did you tick off that first year? Not so many. I'm not a great beer drinker and I'd usually take an ordinary draft Blonde which, in Brussel, is usually Leffe or Afflighem. Westmalle Triple is a bad idea if you are thirsty and the day is warm. It is a dry taste and very moreish but also 9.8% v which gets to you quite quickly. There's another blonde beer, I can't remember the name of at the moment, Palm perhaps. It was the only draft beer on sale at the cafe on the lake in Tervuren where I used to walk at weekends and has a stronger flavour than the other two. |

Plenty of imbibing going on around here but no close up shots.  274A6237.jpg by Pete, on Flickr That was 2018 and I was a bit surprised this year to see the open course deserted. I don't know if this was because it is physically shut or whether there has been no pick up in demand after the Covid shutdown. The stands have appeared packed. I've no real interest in the races other than taking pictures, one horse and jockey looking pretty much like another, and it is all getting a bit repetitive. I went down a couple of times in 2023, mainly to practice with the new camera. |
