A couple from 200 yards from where I now live in BRENTWOOD Essex -- the Old Highwood Hospital which was all Modernised into Expensive Housing - its on the way to my Doctor's Surgery - it is dated 1903 ! My NAN was in one of the wards in the late 1940's and I remember being taken from East Ham to Brentwood ( which was a 'Small Country Town' ) then when I was about 9 years old to see her - she had Cancer but in 'Those Days' it was never talked about. Many years ago when I was working as Freelance I had to photograph the Old Chimney Stack being Blown up for the 'Brentwood ARGUS' newspaper and I used my Asahi Pentax S3 with manual wind and got a series of 4 frames as it came down ! I had moved to BRENTWOOD in 1965 from East Ham. So here as the snaps on my 'Gift' NIKON F75 + AF Nikkor 28=105mm f3.5-4.5 D lens and outdated' Activa 400' ( KONICA) found in my Fridge, rated 250 ASA abd home-processed in C41 , scanned with PusTek Optikfilm 7200 + Vuescan Pro + PhotoShop 7 Nikon F75 Brentwood 02 by Peter Elgar, on Flickr Nikon F75 Brentwood 03 by Peter Elgar, on Flickr

1903 is the same year that my house was built, sadly it doesn't have a nice carved stone plaque to show it. To be honest I don't think it's as well built either, but that could just be because I know it's faults & theirs don't show in an overall photo.

Only young I know, but not really a baby IMO. About half the houses in our area have been built since we moved in, and few are marked on the 1900 OS map (several that were such as the wind mill have gone). Are you planning a 250th celebration?

Most of the former mental hospitals* round here were sold to David Wilson homes. The main buildings were converted to apartments with upper end executive housing (out of the reach of peasants)being added. They in in turn sold land to companies like Persimmons for bog standard estates. * 5 developments, lots of loonies round here, obviously.
