I'm not convinced we've done this here...or at least if we have apologies for not paying attention - but this month I'd like you to show me photographs in praise of/after the style of/in the fashion of/giving a nod to...your favourite photographers. You can choose one photographer to inspire you or many more if you're up for it. I won't necessarily be judging on how 'like' the other photographer's work your photo is but on whether or not I like it but I'd still like to know who the inspiration was. Here's my nod to Saul Leiter: 231022-steam window car lights clyde by Kath Polley, on Flickr And although I only thought of it after the fact, this reminded me of a Gregory Crewdson if he'd had no budget and no staff: 231117-Helensburgh Lights-016 by Kath Polley, on Flickr Good luck all! I took this for an old theme on AP (what the theme was I don't recall). The style of the image was based on Warhol, for the banana obviously and the eroticism of Mapplethorpe and the clear link to a phallus. So I guess it is more giving a nod to the 2 artists. Just need to get a bull whip for my next shot. skin a banana by Nigel G, on Flickr

I did once wield a Mapplethorpe image at some creepy guy on the train who wouldn't stop staring at me. Thought I'd give him something more interesting to look at!

Nope, Kath , way too many influences to choose from . Basically, every photographer, picture taker that I've ever come in contact with since October 1976 (over 47 years), I've gleaned some info from . Although, admittedly, from Oct 76 to summer of 1985, it was unintentional / un/subconscious . It was only since the late autumn/early winter of 1985/86 that I started taking snaps a bit more intentionally and was gleaning info and asking direct questions . So, all the PJ's, photogs, customers asking "me" questions have all been an influence to/on me . .. . . .So, at long last, I'll submit a snap I took of Gordon Lightfoot with Kodak 110 camera way back in September 1981 just before my return to London and work and, at least, 5 years before the word "photography" was even a word in my vocabulary . **EDIT: an updated 'post process of the same snap ** Cheers, Jack

Yes, Todd Hido too - although it has been a while since looked at his work, I do have a book of his photographs on my 'wishlist' so perhaps the influence was more prevalent than I'd realised!

But some influences are more obvious than others, and I'd also invite you to create an image which is a deliberate homage to another photographer. As soon as I saw the fog outside I thought 'Brassai' and grabbed the camera. I'm currently enjoying leafing through some photography books to see who else I might have a stab at!

Well Keith, I was going to say W Eggleston, but I just came across a photographer (contemporary/modern) called Greg Stimac who has a fresh style (and the sun of course) worth a look.

It was indeed Eggleston that those photographs were referenced to but I take your point about Stimac which looks like Eggleston with people. This rather supports my and Jack's idea that these things come about without you realising or perhaps because you have seen similar images in the past.
Some more WE alike hotel room shots.
I do admit that these were after I took an interest in Eggleston and to an extent Shore.
