One of the first, and possibly best

On the whole, I'd rather dig out my ears and fill the void with earwigs than listen to Rap/garage/gangsta. I agree about Grandmaster Flash and white lines. Love that song and the memories of clubbing when I was younger, which strangely enough were alternative clubs but still played that track. I do have a wide ranging taste of music now but as I say, Rap or that sort of thing I just generally don't like, however if I like a song/artist, I'll like it, irrespective of the genre. one similar album is Kings and Queens by Jamie T. Really not my thing however there are some great tracks on it. Anybody that knows me and my tastes would not have me liking that! As some of you know I am a fan of Numan. Oddly, he has been linked and referenced by early US rap artists as an influence, which seems weird. AfriKa Bambaataa an American DJ/Rap artist collaborated with him, covering one of his early tracks. it is strangely very good (certainly with a bit of volume!) Not unlike PIL.

One of the first, and possibly best She was playing over the summer with Glen Matlock on Bass as support to Iggy Pop, playing earlier were Generation Sex a combo of Billy Idol, Steve Jones, Tony James and Paul Cook. That was a well mispent summer evening in Crystal Palace.

In a way rap/hip-hop/gangsta etc. is a lot like the various incarnations of heavy metal - lots of people do it but only a few do it well...

I know very little about rap so couldn't give you names or song titles etc but I know there have been a few times when the word play has been a delight and the delivery impressive even if I didn't catch all of it. I don't like or dislike it...it's just there really.

Gave me a bit of a turn as well.

Like is not how I would describe my appreciation to Rap in general but maybe tolerate is to far removed from my liking for it. To actually listen to loads of it no I wouldn’t but I really like the rappers ability to perform. So maybe I’m a lukewarm fan

So maybe I’m a lukewarm fan Luke Warm, wasn't he big in the 60's, with his band the Night Storage Heaters?

If I described my perception of RAP then I would be banned.

A rock music radio station in Auckland used to advertise themselves as "No rap, no crap, the Madonna free zone". Madonna, an artiste I have never rated at all personally, very good at creating hype imho. As for Rap, it all sounds the same to me, doubtless some of the lyrics? are okay, just can't stand listening to it.

If I described my perception of RAP then I would be banned. Like Rock and Roll 🎸 should have been banned in the 50’s.?

I don't 'get' any of the genres mentioned here. I'm stuck in the days of Lonnie Donegan. His rendition of 'Nobody's child' was memorable. Having remembered that, I have to mention the Ellington/Armstrong version of 'Mood Indigo'. Also memorable.
