That should not detract from his immense positive contribution when he was still compos mentos.
Edit - Hopefully my last "do this to death". Before he was elevated to the house of lords he opined that if a lesser judge disagreed with HOL judgement he (obviously a judge would not be a woman) should ignore it. His expressed opinion changed radically once he was a law lord.
