I think it's probably safe to say that most of us rarely use our cameras for video, or at least that's the impression I get from reading forum members' thoughts on camera specs. Over the years I've enjoyed grabbing video of my cat being funny, wildlife, and so on, but I've never really thought about doing much with those videos. I've got the free software that came with Windows and have used it to edit some of my cycle commute videos but nothing more than that.
Anyone here actually using video regularly/semi-seriously?

I have been asked to shoot video occasionally. I don't enjoy it. I think the lecturers at art school made it seem really complicated and I've just never been at ease with it in the same way as shooting stills. More and more clients want it though so I'm going to have pull up my socks and get on with learning more about it I think.

shooting it is fine but I find trying to edit it to produce something watchable is something else

I think my biggest hurdle is the fear that the huge files will drag my PC to a halt. That and the needless but inevitable worry over choosing the wrong codec/bit rate.

I have a video camera, which I haven't used for years...it records on mini DVDs. I've not used a digital camera for video. I do have a dashcam in the car...

I've got a video of a fox crapping in my rose bush.... This isn't a classified ads forum, if you want a buyer for that filth please look elsewhere.

My greatest achievement in video was when I first went to Japan to teach English. All the new intake teachers had a get together and a few of us made a short Mission: Impossible inspired film on a camcorder. I story boarded it and was pretty much the director of photography. We had no editing suite so it was painstakingly shot in scene order on the tape, rewinding and rerecording each scene until it was ok. It was a lot of fun, working out how to do complex scenes with one camera/one take and reasonable continuity. I'd forgotten all about that until now.

I'm not interested but have shot video on those rare occasions that I buy a new camera. Its part of verifying that everything works.

I have filmed my grandson's basketball games and passed the files to him. What he now wants is a highlights reel of his scoring feats...

He has the files. I would be tempted to buy him the software needed to create the highlights reel. Assuming that you know how to use it you could also offer to teach him its use.

I did a couple for him and he was "well impressed" He wasn't impressed when I couldn't help very much with the graphic/creative side of photoshop

No, not at all. I have a "for safety" camera on my bike and have tried to cut down some sequences for reporting close passes using the supplied software and that's as far as it goes.

Pre Covid I used to video dance teams at folk festivals, now I don't get out, old age no longer creeps up on me it's arrived, - just over 4 months to 90.

On reflection I think my personal antipathy to video rests in my late father's ownership of a cine camera and being forced to watch cringe-making replays of holiday (beach mainly) films year after year, always Christmas time (because then it was dark early and easy to set the projector up). On the other hand, my children post phone-shot clips of their children on facebook and as grandparents there can be some pleasure in watching these, especially development things like first steps which we would otherwise miss because we live quite far apart. I just hope for the grandkids' sake that these clips prove ephemeral and they don't have to go through their teenage years being reminded of what they looked like "live" aged 0 - 5. I totally fail to understand some people's fascination with shooting stills in "burst mode" where this is 10 fps or faster. That is like watching video/film frame by frame really. Sit in a bird hide and there is bound to be someone enthusiastically taking 3000 frames of something utterly common, standing still.
