You know that I'm biased, Zou, "PENTAX" is your only answer Good call, Jack.

You know that I'm biased, Zou, "PENTAX" is your only answer Good call, Jack. Indeed. The bit about the ME was unnecessary though. Love how you lot always think another new camera is the solution. The classic N+1 scenario - where the number of cameras you need is the current number you have, plus one.

You mean..... <gasp>..... it isn't?!! Not always, sometimes it's N+2 or even N+3...

I've now got 3 alternative digital travel systems:
Pentax Q, for when I don't really want to carry a camera, but still want to carry a camera system. Yes, only I could think like that...
Canon M6 II for most lightweight travel.
Canon R8 for slightly less lightweight, want FF travel.
I've got fairly comprehensive lens choices for each that can be tailored for most needs, but each includes a pancake prime for real compactness.
If taking film, well I've recently snapped up a bargain Canon Demi C with 28 and 50mm lenses (cheap because the frame counter doesn't work), so looking forwards to that. Else Pentax MX with 20, 40mm Pancake, and 150, or Leica CL with 15 and 90mm Voigtlander, and 40mm Leica pancake for interchangeable lens use. Other than that, it'll be an ultracompact - a Rollei 35, Minox 35 or Oly XA - the Holga or more likely Sprocket Rocket, or whatever I fancy that's not too heavy from my collection - a Retina, a lighter TLR or whatever.
I would love to say Pentax 67, but no way am I carrying that outfit any way but in the car.

Then APSC & FF options for when I want something more than MFT... When weight is no object & I want full control there's the 5x4 monorails, but that's a much slower process. Despite currently having digital systems in 7 different crop factors, the N+1 (or more) still describe my desires.

I know the sensor isn't great but it's just such a lovely wee camera and system. Was really keen on the Canon M series as a replacement for my NEX but it was discontinued just as I was seriously looking and that put me off buying into the system. The APS-C R series don't appeal at all.

The APS-C R series don't appeal at all. I have to admit to enjoying playing with the Q & it's slightly bigger brother the QS1, both bodies & a good range of lenses easily fit in a small camera bag. It was rather disappointing in Sicily however as I paired then lenses down quite hard - taking out the adapted lenses, then early on the telephoto decided to stop focusing. There ended up being quite a few places where the lenses I'd turned out would have been a huge benefit! I managed to pick up a replacement telephoto quite quickly on getting back, even if I did pay more than I wanted. NB several systems are listed on e-bay now starting around £150 - and not all of them are from Japan!

Maybe I’m getting old and jaded But I’d leave that lot at home and just take a modern phone. I love photography. But I’ve accepted unless it’s macro with flash or high speed action my phone is all I need.
I suppose “playing” is part of the attraction but the bottom line is a phone is good enough now.

Darn. The back of the Pentax has opened twice today. First time fortuitous as it revealed the film hadn't wound on properly, second time less so. Will need to investigate but seems quite likely it'll not be going to Japan.

The time must be getting very close. What is it going to be? You could take two pocket cameras. A Rollei B which I have actually used when space and lightness mattered and Vito II of which I have no experience but lusted for in its day.

Rollei. Without rereading entire thread I don't remember if I reported that the Pentax had some issues when I gave it a test run.
