Is anyone interested? It looks great, but utterly confused between manual simplicity and buttons for everything including the kitchen sink settings. With the primes it's a good size but with the tech inside it's almost more suited to big zooms and video.

It's the modern way. It has to have video, but most users probably wouldn't be interested. Camera users say (with no particular bias on my part) why don't they just make a fully manual digital equivalent of a K1000, FM, A1, etc., But it ain't happening anytime ever. " our customers want everything (photographic) in their hand, why should we give them what they really want) " The trouble is old time users will leave the album pages, and apart from the hipsters, camera photographerS will rule the roost- it won't be tomorrow but thanks to AI it won't be too long.

Leica did the manual only digital M with no screen. That's a camera I'd love to own but yes, the M11 is a much more sensible purchase.

My bargain basement M 240 gets me close to the ethos if not the mega pixels or high iso performance but that is not what I was after, I wanted a film camera with a digital sensor and that is what I got.
These days I rarely look at the screen on the back of any camera other than the one in my phone.

I've never owned or used a Nikon, but if I wanted one, it would be a good Df.

The Df was a weird beast. Surprisingly large, and the weight balance just felt wrong. Didn't really feel solid at all when I looked at one but at least with its photo-only spec it was a bit more focused than the Zf/Zfc.

I am not interested in buying one but am interested in the AF system using the new processor with an unstacked sensor. The Z6 lll, when it comes may well make a good second camera. I used to have a pair of D500. I traded in one D500 and a lot of F mount stuff, replacing them by a Z8 , 24-120 and FTZ2 . I gave up on hoping that Nikon would produce a decent DX mirrorless. The FTZ2 makes the old 200-500 and 70-300 very useable although the 200-500 feels very long for hand holding. The FTZ 2 is not good with the 105mm macro especially used with a 1.7x converter although the AF works even better than on a DSLR. I bought at low cost an original FTZ, second hand in excellent condition. The tripod attachment on the original FTZ is very good for use with the macro lens. From a functional point of view the Zf makes no sense at all. The interface on cameras has moved on for the better. I have no interest in a faux antique. I still have a real antique that uses film.

Neither am I, but it is a demonstration of what might be to come in a Z6 II replacement. That camera is the one that many people have been waiting for. I havenāt owned, or used, a camera with separate knobs since getting my second F5 in 1997 so I see the Zf as a backward step, even though the technology is ahead of what I already have. Other considerations for me would be size, itās too small, and the lack of a vertical grip. Factors that I know enhance its appeal to many other people. It is probably the camera Nikon needs right now and I hope it does well but I also hope that thereās a Z6/7 replacement in the pipeline.

For clarity, my post wasn't intended to be anti-Nikon, Geoff. It was based upon two factors:-
1. I don't have any Nikon lenses (or cameras), so it wouldn't mesh in with anything
2. I've had it with chasing photographic kit. The kit I have is FAR more than I actually need.
I like Nikon kit (I have some Nikon binoculars). But I really don't need any more camera gear!

If anyone feels critical of Nikon I think it would be me. I think they need to get their range sorted out, with a naming system that makes some sense. The Zf, like the Df and Zfc before it, doesnāt seem to fit into an integrated system, which is fine, but the rest of the system doesnāt seem to fit either. Only the Z8 and Z9 bearing any resemblance to one another. I am probably expecting too much.

But I really don't need any more camera gear! I haven't needed any more camera gear since I bought my first Nikon and three lenses (F90, 50mm, 28mm and 70-210)).
That hasn't stopped me buying lots of stuff that I wanted. At least I haven't changed system as each manufacturer played leapfrog.
