This thread was somewhat prompted by me reminiscing about my Canon Ixus APS. L1 I think, it was the fixed lens model. The lens wasn't amazing, but the camera was so compact and the prints contain so many great memories. It died after too much sand got into it at a beach. If it still worked and APS was still a thing I'd be carrying that little camera all the time.

I did think about the XA2 (and I'm currently trying my new XA) but I find I often have to hunt the shutter release.
I agree about the shutter release on the XA series, Adrian... it doesn't fall readily to hand (or, finger).
I have both an XA and an XA2, and I have to say that - overall - I prefer the XA2. It's just so straightforward, in use.

Purely hypothetically, and just for fun, what's your pick as ultimate point and shoot film compact?
If manual focus is allowed, then the Konica c35 is a very nice (and tiny) rangefinder camera, with auto-exposure and an excellent lens.

My first camera! ( I think I was eight?) I had a Kodak Easyshare as my first digital point and shoot. I don't remember much about it other than I don't think it was quite as easy to share as they made out. Before that it would have been some other Kodak auto 35mm thing. I have no recollection of the camera but I took it to America when I lived near San Francisco for two years. We stayed in an apartment complex with a central communal mail hall. Nearly everyone else threw the weekly coupon book from the local supermarket away but I'd gather them all up from the bins and cut out the coupons for D&P. The amount I saved!!!!

That means nothing to me. I was mostly using a 6x6 and bought a pocket sized 35 mm camera for when I was away on business. All I remember is that it was light, silver and maybe had a sliding cover for the lens. I only used it a few times, lent it out to someone and it got lost, which vexed me. I have a positive memory of it. More so than the ubiquitous Olympus trip which I also had at some point in the distant past. Just checked, the Klasse had either 28mm or 38mm depending on the model, so definitely not that. Edit, I must have been thinking of the Natura, but it's not exactly as you described so maybe Nick is right. I must be misremembering. I was cross because it was new when lost. It was silver and wouldn't have been very expensive because I had no disposable income in those days. I've been looking online and can't find anything that immediately reminds me of it.

I think you quoted the wrong post, Geoff... I mentioned the XA series in an earlier post. This post was about the Konica c35.
As it stands, your post seems to be something of a non-sequitur. [Just trying to help ]

Lots of calls for the XA, I still use mine for a couple of films per year. Set to f/5.6 & 3M it is point and shoot or set any aperture, focus and even backlight on that silly little lever for more control.

Misquote and out of context...all pretty normal for the internet

Point and Shoot? Puts me in mind of the days when 'shooting with an SLR' was a touch ambiguous...

Misquote and out of context...all pretty normal for the internet I'm sure you're right, David. I suspect it will reach a temperature of around £23.70, although it might weigh a little less, if you mix some yogurt with it. . . . . .

This kind of fanboyism belongs on the DPReview forum. Tut tut.

My first camera was a Kodak 126 instamatic which I was given for Christmas when I was 10 or 11. It had 2 settings - bright sun or overcast, but I don't know if this changed the aperture or shutter speed. I used with Kodachrome 64 (the beginning of a love affair that lasted until the death of Kodachrome), and once I had learned the limitations of the camera I was able to get decent results from it.
