I dug up a CD of scans that came with prints from my 6x6 - these date to February 2006. I've just been exploring if I can share a CD drive across the network (yes) - but I had to copy the files to work on them - work being resize to 800 pixels - the original jpgs are all over 20 MB. So these are attachments that were shot square. View AttachmentView AttachmentI do like the second one.
Do you ever look back thinking perhaps one last phase of shooting film or do you think that you are well over the effort and inconvenience of film ? As you know I am still sitting on the fence. On Saturday I spent a few hours wandering by the Thames with a dozen other amateur photographers, I took along a 35mm film camera and some lenses taking twenty odd shots, hopefully I was more thoughtful than I have been of late with digital. It was a deliberate attempt to slow down but I could not resist the odd phone camera shot too.
Thanks. I remember taking ages to try and frame it. I noticed on viewing the attachment that it isn't quite square - I assumed that the commercial scans were of the whole negative but looks as if they cut a thin slice off - not enough to notice. Dunno really. I'm not enjoying scanning my old colour negatives but I do enjoy looking at what I took, but that might be me being sentimental. I am looking forward to revisiting the mono 35 mm because I did this for a long time and my printing was rubbish. I know I'll get better results from dry processing. The colour stuff was all commercial printing and the family album prints have faded - hence the scanning, I liked using my 6x6 and almost every day think about getting it out again. Trouble is that it seemed to me that I hardly took any pictures because of the 12 exposure limit and the expense (back in the day). I feel that I liked the look of medium format more than 35 mm, but then in the later days I was using some poor budget lenses so there was a big quality step up to 6x6. Going digital with a 5D and 'L' lenses narrowed the quality gap with 6x6 and digital is a lot better now than it was then. I keep thinking about trying mono on 6x6 again but I've never developed a 120 film - suppose it's a case of waste a couple and get the hang of it. I've thrown all the darkroom stuff away so need to buy more. Even though the outlay seems expensive it is nothing like as expensive as (not quite) medium format digital where the Fuji GFX 100 II looks very interesting, especially with a 30 mm T/S lens. So - rambling - not sure if I liked film for film's sake or film on 6x6 for the enjoyment of using the camera. I wouldn't go back to 35 mm film even though I still have my 50E and of course all my 'L' glass will fit.

As far as I can tell this picture (August 13th this year) was the most recent this year I chose to crop square at the time. I might have posted it on here - we had a theme on spirals or similar. BV9R4835.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I'm not looking further but I tend to crop flower shapes square - this one August 4th - just realised that I've been misreading dates in LR. 274A1924.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Square crops for today .. someone has an expensive hobby. In the pub car park at lunchtime. I expect the Rolls in the next parking space is a modern classic but this one is much prettier. Can't have come far, not a mark on it. For the sharp eyed, it isn't a spec of dirt, it is a fly. DSCF0808.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
