Since you ask, (quite a bit closer than your's) here's the flies foot House fly foot by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Mind you I couldn't have got that close with a live fly, and your shot is a more pleasing image...

"Filters. Obviously taken with a filter in front of the lens or processed with a digital filter." I can't remember who's idea for a theme this was based on, it might have been Kate of Mike? However so far off field for me it is out of the stadium to mix my sporting metaphors. I own the usual B&W contrast filters but ever since the hideous Cokin episode when I was but a child, I have avoided all but a Circ. PL filter and I only bought one of those for the EOS M6's kit lens just before we went to Croatia this year. Devil's Bridge IMG_2372edit20230918filter by Keith Hudson, on Flickr ^^ Steph on a bridge at Devil's Bridge (not this bridge, I don't know who's bridge this is ) I went through every filter in PhotoShop and then on to the new ones in PS2024 (the full version of the current Beta) settling on one of the Ai styles. They are not named by artist though some are obvious, I thought this was most like a Monet and as he did a series of pictures on one of our local railway lines I thought I would go for tweaking it to this. I hate it but there you go.

I know what you mean, zx9 Keith, re the Cokin filters. I think I used to use a red one occasionally, but I soon tired of them. I actually looked for the box of them yesterday, but it must be well hidden or gone! I struggle with this challenge, which probably surprises some of you. I love to play with images, merging them to create a new image. I might use a simple chosen tone to overlay an image, to darken it or change the feel of it. So I do alter some images in my own way, always my own images and different blend modes in Elements 10. I was trying to take a shot using something in front of the lens and rescued the cellophane from the bouquet I received recently. Here it is. with filter 1 by Kate Ferris, on Flickr

However so far off field for me it is out of the stadium to mix my sporting metaphors. I'm fairly sure it wasn't my suggestion, but I certainly have thousands where filters have been used (including some where the filter clips in behind the lens). One of my earlier efforts at infra red (using a cheap 720nm filter with a standard camera) Ghosts of Clacton 1 by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr A more advanced IR - using a U330 filter (passing UV & some IR), and a modified camera Dovercourt park IR by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Using a polariser (& cross polarised light source) acrylic stress by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr I don't have many using digital filters but I've found one using my K100d's Pastel filter In camera filter - pastel by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr

This what I prefer doing. A merge of two or three images, using blend modes as described. PS Don't think I suggested one with filters. my rainforest by Kate Ferris, on Flickr

My film IR was interesting but for some reason I did not re visit though I did find a box of 54 Rollei IR when I was sorting out my film stocks earlier in the year so I must have had something planned. I very rarely use a CPL and don't make notes. I think I was using one this day to darken the sky, big no-no CPL and 19 mm focal length. Possibly I have tried to redeem it in software, usually I throw the results away. I use neutral grads (I've even got a set of Lee filters somewhere) mainly in software but the point is to not make their use obvious. I'll use contrast filters for mono conversions but again more for subtle rather than dramatic effect. Not tried any computerised effect filters, not my cup of tea at all. Backing off on the clarity setting can give an impressionist effect for some photos which is as about as far as I go in being creative. too much CPL for a ruined sky 274A4554.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Edit: this from the same day shows the effect more clearly. I reprocessed it just now but the sky is very clearly darker in the middle. The sun was behind and to the right looking into the picture. My shadow was in the bottom left hand corner, lost in crop from 3:2 to 16:9. 274A4555.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
