Flipflopi Kubwa Scale Model Boat - Taken at the Plastic Fantastic exhibition at the V&A Dundee.
Struck by the amount of plastic waste on Kenya's beaches, Ben Morrison founded the Flipflopi Project in 2015. Together with a local craftsman, he developed a traditional Swahili sailing dhow made entirely from plastic waste. Ten tons of waste was melted, shaped, and carved for the first Flipflopi. Flip flops-the most common item found during the beach clean ups-clad the dhow and give it its name. The team sailed along the East African coast to educate local communities about plastic pollution.
