Dartmouth Ferry Given a little pop using very poor wacom skills View AttachmentAs mentioned in the daily themes today. I was enthralled with how it worked when I saw it as a kid back in 1976, incidently that was the long hot summer which as a kid from Yorkshire I assumed that it was always that hot 'down south', how wrong I was.

It looks like a cast off cable ferry lashed to a has been fishing boat. They still make, with the help of a photographer a pretty picture.

I remember it well. I was working at BA in their old BEA offices. Under skylight windows was not the best!

I'm guessing that you were stood on the station at Kingswear, David?
BTW, I was in Dartmouth a few weeks ago, and I don't remember those houses being monochrome.

The ferry is or was a chain or cable pulled ferry which is what fascinated me as a kid. I will have a look for photographs of it taken by me or my Dad when we visited all those years ago, hopefully I should be able to find some slide scans which I did in 2020.
Edit. I looked but could not find any pictures of Dartmouth or the Steam railway, I suspect they will be in amongst the hundreds of slides as yet un scanned. Most of the ones that I scanned had a wider family interest and are now in a private shared FB album to which various scattered family members are invited.

This is the lower ferry between Kingswear and "the back of the pub" as my Grandson called it. The higher ferry was the one that connected Dartmouth to Torbay via the Main Road and as chain driven.

That has been an interesting diversion down memory lane and would suggest that we went on both ferries. I still can't find any pictures.
