My dad predates Pratchett by 6 years. A good innings so far and I wish him well and may he as long as he wants to. Mine made 58. Which as he started full time work at ten was - IMO - being extremely short changed. At 69, and having retired at 61, I feel very greatful for the NHS and modern treatments - stents etc.

Mine only made 56. History of heart disease in the family so I am grateful I have reached 64, again thanks to the NHS etc. |

I've just made 80 in spite of dropping dead, about 18 years ago, in the gym where I did cardiac rehab. Thanks to someone I have never met who apparently did CPR, a machine from the adjoining bowling centre, and the NHS, I am still here to entertain/annoy you.
Defibrillators and CPR courses, are costing pension schemes and the state a fortune. I am of course grateful at a personal level but do wonder how sustainable these life extending interventions might be.
