Sorry, but has something changed ? I can’t fathom or locate how to upload pictures? I’ve uploaded before but the option to do so seems to be missing??

In desktop view it should let upload attachments or embed images hosted elsewhere in the reply/new thread screen.
If you are in mobile view there should be a desktop view option at the bottom of the screen.

You can't just place it in the box at the bottom of the screen and click "quick reply" , even in desktop mode .
On the top right of the box in the blue line it says "reply" , click that and a new box layout appears with such as font choices and a box with "add attachments " on it .
Click on that and add what you want , then click the "create post" that's now on the bottom right of the box .

If you are in mobile view there should be a desktop view option at the bottom of the screen. Add attachment (based on one try this morning) only seemed to allow a thumbnail view of an image rather than the full image option that the APForum allowed. I didn't post in the end. I started looking for the correct code to display as a full image - is 800 pixels max, same size as I usually embed from Flickr - but didn't find the answer before I went out. I'll try embed image later. I use the desktop view from an ipad. Works OK, although editing some "reply" posts is a pain and better done on a desktop.

Once you have uploaded and posted the clickable thumbnail you can edit the post to embed the full size image. OK - I'll try that. I was sure that I had done it once before. I have an aversion to clicking on embedded links Edit: I must have done something wrong. In edit [post] I get no option to convert the thumbnail of the attachment to a full size image. It was just a suggested edit of an image in Appraisal - that is the only case for which I try to upload something directly to the site. I usually use Flickr. Edit 2: OK maybe I see how it might work as the image address is available, e.g for the last thumbnail of dancers that Mike posted in the daily themes the address is 'https://storage.proboards.com/7301592/thumbnailer/yEqPNKrudMleJImBTBxA.png' - so [rather obviously now that I think of it] every time someone uploads an attachment rather than linking from a host site it takes some pro-boards storage and probably eats into a storage limit assigned to this forum - presumably number 7301592. I won't bother posting what I had or try the insert image tag using the proboard's image location.

Flickr works just fine and is set up for photographers and is easy to use. Bear in mind this is just a forum that happens to be set up as a photography one. It could be a forum of anything. I have tried on my iPhone. The add attachment button is there on mine when put on desktop format and I can add photos from my photo folder on the phone, albeit they are bigger than 1mb which is the limit.

Off topic slightly, but it’s somewhat ironic that a photo forum actively discourages uploading photos. For the avoidance of doubt. The forum allows the uploading of images. it is ME who, on reflection today because of thoughts created by this thread, is suggesting that uploading images may in time have an impact on the site costs. The site was very kindly and benevolently created for us by Martin when APForum closed, assisted by the volunteer moderators (thank you all), and if I remember correctly from the early posts Martin is already incurring personal costs to keep adverts away from us. I would be enormously surprised if the "free hosting" by Proboards did not come with a storage limit and so it would seem prudent to minimise the number of image files uploaded directly when alternatives exist.

I can sense the groans !! Near the top right there should be a grey button to add attachments. After pressing that you should see an add files option in a popup window.....and then once it has uploaded an option to insert the image where the cursor is in the main window. I find moving the cursor after inserting an image that way on a phone is tricky so press return for a new line or two on the onscreen keyboard so you can add more images or keep typing after the image.

I’m not tech savvy at all But is it possible to create a WhatsApp group so we can all throw in photos ?? Your just getting technical here ! I've no idea what's a WhatsApp is ! I use Flickr, and there's nothing wrong with it for hosting pictures . There's a limit to how many you can keep on there if you use the free service . Pay the subscription for pro membership and storage is unlimited .
