I’m not tech savvy at all But is it possible to create a WhatsApp group so we can all throw in photos ?? Your just getting technical here ! I've no idea what's a WhatsApp is !  It is a messaging service that works on newer phones. My boys use it, and it is (was) quite good but it stopped working for me four or five years years ago - my iphone is just too old. |

I stopped using it because I found it to be a source of alert diarrhea. |

I have a number of friends who are into photography
We all chat and share pictures using WhatsApp
Personally think it’s great. My camera is sync’d to my phone, so I just tweak and forward the shots
Much less hassle than booting the laptop up.

Anyone actually cool with Meta's privacy policy? I would hope not. I do occasionally use Facebook and WhatsApp because a couple of groups of which I am a member rely on them. I interact with them on my PC using Firefox with its Facebook container.

Best to put them on a photo-sharing website (e.g. Flickr) and then link via bbc code. That saves using up the storage resource of this site. It’s okay I’ll leave it I’ve heard Flickr is not so good these days. Off topic slightly, but it’s somewhat ironic that a photo forum actively discourages uploading photos.   Add attachment, then 'insert', then 'done'. Windows 10 PC, Google Chrome, no need to use any other website and risk their cookies too. |

I think the question moved onto how to link to hosting sites such as Flickr so images could be posted without them filling up the server space here . I've only posted a few images here , and I think I attached them directly off my PC onto here . Depending on image size and how many people move the image directly onto here , the storage could soon get used up . As we're not paying to be here , and we don't have advertiser's revenue, it'd only be a matter of time before more server space had to be paid for , which I believe is all coming out of Martin's pocket . By uploading images to a hosting website , then posting them here via a bb code helps keep storage requirements to a minimum . Previously, that's something I hadn't considered , but going forward I shall make the effort to post images via Flickr. Assuming I can figure that bit out !  |

It is just a text messaging service really but where you can set up group texting (a bit like you can on iPhone) but with whatsapp you can do it irrespective of what phone they use or it can be used for one to one like normal texting. Also it uses data rather than SMS so I use it to text or voice/video call to family in the US so I don't pay any international fees. If I am travelling abroad in an area not covered by my roaming but have access to wifi I can still phone/text etc someone in the UK for no charge. Likewise if I was to send an MMS to someone not an iPhone I would pay a fee for that. By using whatsapp, as it uses data it costs me no extra. It is useful for work for me, as when jobs come out, it goes on the group chat, from which anyone on the chat can see and show availabilty. |

I thought the fee to the site owner was due to lack of page views. If so adding attachments just increases the value for money.

I would have thought you have to pay for server space to whoever owns it ( b.proboards.com in this case ) , the more space you want the more they hire out to you . I would have thought that the busier it is would only count if adverts were on it and b.proboards were collecting the revenue from them . If b.proboards.com just give you server space for free and make nothing from it or you , that makes no business sense to me . |

The small amount I pay for extra uploads, page views, and no adverts isn't going to bankrupt me. It works out as pennies per month for each active member. As the majority of us link into Flickr or similar I don't see this changing. Just buy me a pint or a coffee should we ever meet in real life, or if you feel guilty donate to your local wildlife trust.
