A grab shot on a family holiday. Definetly a case of where more time spent capturing would have meant less time processing. But does it work? Nikon Zfc, 28mm f/2.8, at f/4.5, 1/640", ISO 100.

Yes and no. I think you've captured the action and the enthrallment of everyone at the size of that bubble really well. However I think the processing has left and odd halo around the bubble man's head and the also the palm tree doesn't look quite right. And finally I'd have to crop out that right hand side black triangle on the railing. Otherwise I really like it.

As far as the shot goes I say yes it works but I have to agree with Kath re the processing and the black triangle...

It took me a while to figure out that the bubble was a bubble and not a net. Overall impression is that it is a bit busy. The processing critique I agree with but the weaknesses didn't leap out at me on first impression although they are obvious on inspection. Does the bubble show up as more of a bubble in the colour version? That's assuming that you haven't used a mono camera.

Can we see the unprocessed image for comparison?

I think I'd have kept the colour. It makes it more clear as to what is taking place. Busy though.

I have to say my initial reaction was "why black & white?". Having viewed it a few times now, I still don't understand why.

I can see why that (B&W) version was hard work.

I like overcooked colour. I know that it is wrong, but I like it. Edit. That didn't come out right. I was trying to get the interference colours in the bubble. I think that it would involve a lot of effort to do that without messing up the rest of the picture.

It doesn't have to be that extreme. But then again, I am working with the Raw file . Plus, I think it's far too cluttered - I appreciate that your edit was a quick one to make a point DSC_3108-Edit-Edit by Adrian Sadlier, on Flickr

You have got a bit of Martin Parr influence. You have also got the colours in the bubble. Clearly it is a bubble not a net.

The crop would also get rid of most of the bright patch of light (and the dust bunny), that I find distracting. It could just be my monitor, but I think you could bring up the exposure on the main part of the image, then use a grad filter to keep the background from going too bright.
