When I was about 4 years old, my mother, in desperation, sent me for music (piano) lessons with a teacher nearby. My mother taught piano herself, but was sick of me butting in on lessons and playing something myself. So I went to Miss Johnson. It was magic. I took to it like a duck to water. My brain and fingers fizzed! After each lesson she and I would go into her garden for a wander before I trotted back home. I remember when the poppies bloomed and she would cut one for me to take home. My mother probably cursed me for it! The magic of music. The delight in translating symbols into sounds.
