I've posted a version of this before on AP, since then I've been back and taken the shot on full frame with a new ultra wide angle 15mm lens I'm much happier with the image quality that the fishey on my A6000. Gnarly Beech by Scott H, on Flickr

I can't remember your previous version, this one is very good my only thoughts are perhaps bring a tiny bit more detail into the darker areas of the forest and leaves on the floor, not much but just lift it a little. (Above based on what I see on this monitor)

I looked at this on Flickr and the tree and canopy are gorgeous. Tones and detail. I find the reddish leaves on the ground a distraction to the overall image, bearing in mind the beautiful tones above. I'd be inclined to selectively reduce the red tones of those leaves and leave us to just enjoy the tree and canopy.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that the previous posts in AP also addressed the processing of the leaves against the green. I might be imagining it because I always have problems getting green/magenta balance right.

I still think green beech tree contrasting with reddish beech leaves make a good contrast.
I am starting to anthropomorphise the tree trunk now, I can see it as a green man coming to life and walking.

It is a great subject. I have a tree pic somewhere that indeed makes me think "Ent" - which is anthropomorphication.

Thanks for the feedback guys, this tree is in the middle of a conifer plantation, it's quite dark and moody in the plantation itself until you come across this rogue beech tree and the place just lights up. It sounds a bit dramatic to say it but it feels like walking into a church or something.
Anyway I had to bracket the exposures as it was a bit of a nightmare otherwise, I wanted to show the dramatic variation in light that I could see so was actually going to have the shadows darker but pushed them a bit more.

That is very nice. I don't mind the black or the red of the leaves. For what it is worth, I see a man too!

From the image here, I think the light/shade balance on the upper part of the tree is perfect, so trying to lighten parts of the image may damage this. A very impressive shot, and worth getting a large print done and put on display. I recently had one of by best 'tree shots' printed to 75x50 cm by CEWE and it looks great, possibly because it was taken with the sharpest lens I own (an old model Sigma 30 mm F 1.4 used at F 5.6).
