Tiny moth by SteveH, on Flickr
Another moth found in our stairwell. A bit over 1cm wide. Small Dusty Wave? Looks about right but should be more like 2cm wide.

Just been and measured it. Yeah, about 2cm wide.
I'm rubbish at estimating sizes. Like most men, I suppose...

Meadow Brown from this morning.... Was just getting comfortable and trying to block the reflection off the screen when the dog spooked it

Dunno whether I should post my feeble attempts following such a masterclass. I certainly am expert in spooking everything in sight if I try to use a 100 mm macro - but it is attached to a 5Ds so there are lots of pixels to crop away Peacock feeding on Buddlea (with fill-in flash) 274A1886.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Gatekeeper on a thistle (no flash) 274A1885.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Trust me Pete, your attempts aren't feeble.

Trust me Pete, your attempts aren't feeble. I have still got a long way to go. I've tried harder this year. I think it must be 6 years ago that I bought a 100-400 and determined to have a go, inspired by your pictures. I just looked on Flickr - it seems you stopped using the account I was following some 4 years ago! I've corrected that now . I suppose that's why Flickr propose to close the "people" tab - if many like me rarely use it! Edit (some long time later): seems I have taken 2 pictures of the same Small White with the 100-400 and that was back in 2018 - the year of purchase (must have been a 2017 Christmas present from me to me). I posted one on APForum back in the day, I remember some words of encouragement, and here is the other. BV9R2510.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Methinks I should get the lens back from being borrowed. It is wasted on trips to Oulton Park (reason given for the borrow).

A sunbathing Comma 274A1951.jpg by Pete, on Flickr It stayed put as I got closer but I was obviously swaying back and toward as I bent down. With the camera on single-shot AF the point of focus on one shot was the near wing tip and on the second it was on the far wing tip. Probably better to use subject tracking than fixed focus. Swapping back to Canon after six months of Fuji is taking some getting used to. This is the better of the two rejects. Near wing out of focus due to camera movement. 274A1953.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

A Comma I couldn't get close to as it was over a deep bit of the river. They are not a particularly common sight round here. Max zoom on the phone since I didn't fancy wading in up to my thighs just for it to fly away.

Got my Canon 100-400 back but it is getting to take some getting used to my 1Div again. The viewfinder is a bit dark compared to full-frame and the EVF on my Fuji camera. As for "judging what you've got" the LCD is a bit sad and basically useless - how easy it is to get spoiled. A honey bee I believe. BV9R4791.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I got this with the 100-400 and 1Div as well. I totally missed focus on a cooperative small white which was annoying. Common Carder Bee. BV9R4750.jpg by Pete, on Flickr
