As reminded by Mike - Walton Pier 274A0375.jpg by Pete, on Flickr I should have the lifeboat too somewhere Edit: Found it (2015) and it could do with reprocessing BV9R0324.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Great study of the pier Nigel, especially the second and third ones.

Odd thing is, I do like a good fish eye shot but have no desire to own a lens like that.
I feel the same every time I see an E type Jag, beautiful cars but I would not want to own one, perhaps one day when I grow up.

Wharfs and piers get a bit confusing, especially the disused ones. I always thought wharfs were alongside the water edge while piers stick out. However when I was sailing smaller walkways that stick out & float were called pontoons, but it seems this is no longer considered the case. Google shows this as Waterloo pier: Parliament by infra red by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Though it definitely looks like its floating with the tide & is relatively small (definitely a pontoon to my eye)

That lifeboat 'the RNLI Irene Muriel Rees' was the target for my experiments in digiscoping (though why I did it in January, when light was poor & she was rolling wildly is now quite beyond me) It looks like you were shooting from the same vantage point at the end of Southview drive that I chose

When father died my mother moved to Walton but it didn't work out. She had a lovely ground-floor flat in Seaview Heights overlooking the sea. My photos are probably taken the garden which went down to the footpath between Southcliff and Southview but may have been from the cliff. Another one 274A0364.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Edit 2. I revisited the lifeboat photo just for fun. Indeed, at full resolution I can just make out the name Irene Muriel Rees. It was taken on 4th July 2015 with a Canon 400 mm F 5.6 L on a 1Div. This the complete (uncropped) picture which I have put through Adobe LR photo-enhance) though it didn't make much difference. BV9R0324-Enhanced.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I feel the same every time I see an E type Jag, beautiful cars but I would not want to own one, perhaps one day when I grow up. They are something of a 'Marmite' lens... What I find is that I will have a bout of 'fisheye fever' which then burns itself out 'til the next time. They're also difficult to use properly, I try to avoid the trap of just photographing anything with the fisheye effect - which frankly doesn't work that well - and try to find a subject and viewpoint that works with with the distortion. I'm not saying I always manage this but I do try... FWIW the Cromer Pier shot is actual one of those ultra-wideangle adapters that you screw on the front of a lens. Used on my 17-70 Sigma at 17mm it does an acceptably good job as a circular fisheye.

I was thinking along those lines along with buttresses flying or not but could not find any suitable pictures.
Edit: Great reflections in the first one.
