There seem to be some great deals on the S5, especially since the S5ii was released. In my quest to identify my next main camera it's risen up to be a contender. Aside from a 5 minute play with one in store I've not heard much from real users, just the initial launch reviews. Has anyone here got experience with one? Not interested in its video performance, just stills.

Just interrupting the tumbleweed to say that I've been comparing raw samples from 4th gen Fuji and the S5, and the S5 trounces the Fujis. It also has everything I specifically wanted (EVF, albeit not as good as the Fuji ones, it is at least as good as the comparable Sony models; IBIS; flippy screen, etc. etc.). Now I just have to find a way to get Mrs Zou onboard with the idea!

I will also compare Sony a7ii/iii files, because the former is still available new, and the latter is the 'benchmark' at the price point.

I think the main issue is that the kit I want (S5, 20-60 + 85/1.8) is just over 4x as expensive as the kit it'll replace. If things don't go to plan A, plan B is a used Fuji, probably X-T3, with 23/2, at a combined half the price of the Lumix kit. |

Not interested in its video performance, just stills. I was in John Lewis in Newcastle this morning, there are four S5s on the clearance shelf, priced at £899 & £999. I assume they are returns as I don't recall ever seeing the model in their normal displays. |
