The Guardian was really on the ball with this story. I came across it on the Telegraph site and Googled it to find an open access reference. The Guardian got it first. My response was :- "This experiment is a ridiculous waste of effort. There was a time when scientists showed faith in their creations. Prof Wolvetang should eat some of this 'meat' (or take the John Gummer approach) if he ever wants to receive further funding for his research. "

Why not just wait for a glacier to melt like a normal nibbler of extinct beasts?

Funny, I'd have thought mammoth gammon would be right up the OP's street.

Funny, I'd have though mammoth gammon would be right up the OP's street. Too much like cannibalism...

Maybe if I was lost in the delta quadrant I'd eat it.

"We haven’t seen this protein for thousands of years,” said Wolvetang. “So we have no idea how our immune system would react when we eat it" ..err, WTF? They thinking mixing Mammoth and Elephant DNA is a good idea even if it is potentially not edible, but mixing DNA from other living creatures will give different results? Iagree with the OP, let the bugger eat his own meat first ...door left open

"We haven’t seen this protein for thousands of years,” said Wolvetang. “So we have no idea how our immune system would react when we eat it" Dunno why he's saying that, I've no doubt anyone eating its immune system would behave exactly as it would if it encountered any other protein new to it. That how immune systems learn what's what.

I'm guessing everyone saying they wouldn't eat it have never had a kebab on the way home from the pub on Saturday night . You'd need more than a DNA test to find out what that lump was ! I'd prefer to know what part the meat balls were grown from though . A mammoth steak might be passable.
