Any interest in a periodic challenge along these lines? - Image file shared at full size, anyone can download it (but how/where, as the attachment size on the forum won't cut it)
- Over specified period, everyone can edit/process/transform the image as they interpret it
- We vote for the winner, who then submits the next file
Too much hassle, or good for a laugh? I think it would be really revealing seeing what others can take from your file, but there would be some practical hurdles to overcome.

That could be a good idea. It can be interesting to see how others process files.
Suggest running it for a while, and just see how it goes. At risk of stating the obvious, it'll either work, or it won't.

I don't recall seeing this, but I'd be up for it!

I don't recall seeing this, but I'd be up for it! Grand, if we keep up this recruitment rate we might have enough to start in 2026!

Why does it have to be at full size (resolution)? Unless the edits are aimed at micro-detail - which will be lost when uploading it - i don't see the need - unless you anticipate suggestions like "lose 90% in a crop".

You really can't push a 800px image very far, which would somewhat limit what people could do with it, especially if wanting to do a heavy edit.

I'd suggest something like longest edge, 2000px Gives you a decent enough size to edit the file

I was just thinking that Appraisals on APforum sometimes resulted in suggested edits and that was OK with the 800 px start. You couldn't crop but aside from that I don't see what you would do differently with the same image spread over more pixels, assuming the result would have to be downsampled anyway if starting with something big.

It's because someone might want to do a decent mono conversion, yes heavy crop, or a major change in hue/saturation and every pixel helps. I think Fen is right though, 2000px should do it.

I reckon that your original suggestion - original (Raw?) file would be the place to start. This provides maximum information for editing (c.f. bold highlight above). The resulting edited image need only be posted at 800px (long side).
