I won a Fed 4 on an online auction - it was described as not working, shutter won't wind. I paid $5 for it. When I collected the camera, I turned the rewind knob (around the release button) to "advance", and the camera worked. I adjusted the rangefinder, put a short test film through the camera, and sold it for $40.

Probably my Box Brownie for £8. Cheapest medium format I've seen, and fully working. Well, very little to go wrong innit.

I have another camera, which I didn't count as a bargain, since I didn't pay for it. One of my nephews told me one of his workmates had a camera which he was going to dump - would I like it? He dropped off a Konica Autoreflex TC, with a standard lens, two zoom lenses, and a macro lens. The extra lenses looked unused, and the camera almost new. I still have it.

One other bargain I picked up from a local auction house. They were trialling online auctions, and had "buy now" prices listed. I found a lot, in an case, which included a Canon FTBn, a Vivitar series 1 zoom lens, and an Olympus zoom compact camera. I paid $140 for it. I listed the Olympus compact on an online auction, and sold it for $140. When I pulled the foam out of the case, I found old brochures, and 2 sets of autographs. One set was a New Zealand cricket team from the 1960s. I listed this for auction online, and it sold for $50.

Best for the pocket is a Nikon F801s body for free.
Otherwise a Voigtlander Vito for £5 because "it doesn't work". Oh yes it does!

I picked up a Minolta Dynax/Maxxum 7 with grip and 28-75mm f:2.8 for a couple of hundred quid off eBay at the time when folks were dumping film SLRs like they had the plague, at the start of the digital revolution. Just as well, as my 7000 was failing electronically in a leisurely manner. It was my first second hand camera, as living in the Middle East, if I wanted a new toy I would just shuffle along to the Dubai duty-free shop. In the seventies and eighties, and into the early nineties, prices were about half the UK retail price. Not any more!

I guess being given (in separate events) a Leica (admittedly an MDa) and a Nikon F3 and Nikkormat ELW are probably the jammiest. Cheapest paid for? Hmm. I haven't sent the £50 Contax III off to be fixed yet, so it will finish costing rather more!
I've picked any number of box cameras up for between £5 and £10, and the odd folder too - a Vito II for £10 at a boot sale, and a Voigtlander Bessa (one of the lower-grade ones, not the top-of-the-range jobs) for £5 at the same one.

At the time I was using a Bronica SQ and bought another 120RFH for it, you could never have too many backs, the RFH came with a free faulty SQA odd thing was that the camera did work but the RFH did not. The back was an easy fix, I think there was a loose screw on the wind on / dark slide interlock mechanism, it has been a while and I can't remember the exact details. In those days I paid about £100 for a back, sadly the whole outfit is probably not worth a lot more than that now.

I would have thought that a 120 SLR would - if in working order - attract a decent price these days. You could always send it my way in exchange for good karma!

Not my best bargain today, but still one I'm fairly pleased with, an apparently working VPK (vest pocket kodak autographic) from ~1918 for £10. When I got it I thought the bottom plate needed new screws, but then I found out how it works.

A little more if it's an SQ-A, and a little more again if it's an SQ-Ai.

I should point out that I'm no expert, Keith. The prices I mentioned are just from my casual observations of items for sale. I have an SQ-A, and am therefore interested in its value, so I take notice when I see one advertised (though I have no desire to sell mine).
