Self published books are massively expensive to buy, but I really enjoyed putting this together, even though many of the photos are boring! www.blurb.co.uk/b/8860126-contiguous-numbersMy photography has taken a real back-seat at the moment, for various reasons, but this book a few years ago was a definite high point.

Ooh, can I borrow the idea as a theme for our monthly photo club please? I've been far too democratic up to now and asked those at the meetings what they'd like the themes to be and they've come up with all the usual predictable themes (autumn, water, winter, skies). I like the idea of setting an actual challenge.

I wish I could share my Photobox books fir the cricket club annual dinner, but they don't seem to have a share facility. I actually think that's a bit carp as surely if you advertised, people would want copies and they'd sell more...

Of course.
I got up to 130 before running out of energy.
These were my 'rules' which became guidelines,
- the numbers have to be shot in sequence (i.e. can't go shooting #23 before #18 even if the #23 is an excellent example). - can't shoot the same number source twice in a row (no walking up a road, shooting door numbers one after another). - as many different sources as possible. - must be prominent in the image. - can be the digit or the word. - can't be part of another number unless there's a clear separation (e.g. telephone numbers split into three, count as three different numbers). - letters and numbers combined is fine, only the number counts.
I think the best images I got were when I tied the number into another theme, like a particular style, movement blur for example, or framing, or something else to make it not a snapshot.

I think they partnered with Zenfolio or something and took the option of selling your creations away on the site.

Brilliant, thank you! I may turn it into a race of sorts, and see who can follow the rules and reach the highest number by the next meeting. It will be interesting to see how many of the same scenes feature as we all live in a relatively small town but I think that could prove interesting as different people will not necessarily produce the same shot.

Sounds good, not sure if you can share the results but would be interested
It certainly opened my eyes to where numbers are present in every day life in a city. My favourite are the painted fishing spot numbers along the canals. Early on, I relied on just stumbling across numbers while walking around, but as the project went on, it became obvious I was going to have to learn what kinds of things has numbers above 100 printed on them!
I saw some great big letters on a wall in Leeds recently, and thought I might do the same for the alphabet, saying that you can only use the first letter of a word printed onto something and have to get the alphabet in order. I may still do that if I ever get out with the camera again.
If people need hints, let me know Shipping containers have a very large range of numbers printed on them usually!

I used to make collections of photographs into ISSUU publications but the free version is now limiting size to 50pp which isn't much use to me so I've decided to start making actual physical books instead. I don't really expect anyone to buy them except me so I'm trying to ignore the ridiculous price of them but have provided a slightly cheaper PDF version just in case. www.blurb.co.uk/b/11528039-you-don-t-want-thiswww.blurb.co.uk/b/11536526-archive

I shared this picture on UK butterfly Facebook group, like I do with a few of my photos. I usually get a few likes for what I post, but for some reason this one has really hit the mark, with over 700 likes from around the world. I checked a few profiles and it's butterfly enthusiasts and wildlife photographers who are liking it. brown hairstreak by Martin Bone, on Flickr
