Shame. The reviews could be helpful. Can't say that I visited the site other than when a search through up a link to a specific [final] review article.

It could be a fantastic resource for obscure info on a camera or lens. OTOH some of the biggest idiots in the photographic world were there, pontificating on how you couldn't possibly take any sort of photo without the very latest high-end kit with 427 stops of dynamic range and a quadrillion petapixels. Some of them appeared to change systems 3 times a year. But it's still a sad loss.

As for those who insist on only the latest and best being good enough, I still find it difficult to understand such people but they do appear on most forums and must have very deep pockets. At least they keep the used market supplied for cheapskates like me.

I used to enjoy the off topic debates, Clinton v Trump for example. No wonder they like to bear arms over there

Yes, I've just received an email from DPR to confirm that they will be closing on April 10. Sad day indeed. But I suppose that like the AP forums, once they are bought by a larger organisation who have no real interest in keeping in touch with their "customers" and are only chasing profits, the writing is on the wall, so to speak. I wish I had the money to buy it up and keep it running

Pity. I hope Barney Britton (ex AP) gets another job. He's been state-side with DP review for quite a few years.

Yes, the first I knew about this was the AP post on Facebook with yours being the first comment... Shortly afterwards I saw a new post on Youtube by the Canadian duo which gives a bit more detail and a timescale for the closure. A shame as I particularly enjoy their videos. The site itself is useful too, and has some good writers including Barney. I remember when Andy was there too prior to AP. The forum I tended to avoid. At times a lot of what was posted seemed to be the internet age equivalent of letters written in green crayon.

dpreview had a much greater audience than AP, especially on its forums. It was, and I believe, still is perceived as being one of the best, if not the very best, independent review sites on the internet. It's a bit like if when BMW had bought Rolls-Royce, they closed RR down after a few months because it wasn't making enough profit. Sad times indeed, and wiping out so much history and advice and camaraderie is unkind and practically inexcusable. I will certainly think twice before buying anything from Amazon ever again.
Now where do we go to to get good impartial advice, and who if anyone will pick up the baton to provide the best reviews?

I’ve just literally 5mins ago learned this sad news. Have to say I’m pretty angry. Amazon not content with the fact they ARE to blame with the desolation of the high street and town centres, they now decide to close websites because…because they can!!
Way too much power!! I think I will seriously consider my next Amazon purchase, the company has got too big for its boots!!
As sad as I am to see the end of Chris and Jordan on YouTube. I feel especially sorry for all those behind the scenes that will lose their jobs as part of Bezo’s 18,000 redundancies.
Maybe it’s a lesson we should all learn from, nobody should have that kind of power. The big multi national conglomerates along with their corrupt banking friends and those parasites in high places deserve a set back.
I for one will hold off future online purchases be it ebay or Amazon .
Their greed knows no bounds.
What with the loss of DigitalRev (Kai & Loki) and more recently our own AP forum.
Maybe it’s time to put the screens down and revert back to how we used to do things.
Yep, it’s really pi$$ed me off!!

Chris and Jordan will continue making videos, they are moving to PetaPixel.
