My Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 lens has developed a fault, one of the elements is out of alignment and it won't focus on anything. So sent it off for a repair quote... £250 *ouch* Has to be done though as it's my main 'work' lens. Probably why it's developed the fault - too much running around at events! Should get it back in a couple of weeks

You've obviously got your Nikkors in a twist.

One of mine has a stiff spot in the zoom and both have loose hood mounting rings. I will keep the better one to use with the F5 and sell the other to MPB. I bought a 24-70 VR recently and have to agree with the reviews that it is a very good lens. I was quoted a price of "not more than £600" by Nikon a few years back but even then I could find a used one in excellent condition for less. It was the same with a 17-55 that needed a new focus motor, the repair was more expensive than a, used, replacement. I like both the 24-70G and the 17-55G but I wasn't keen on the cost of repairs.

The advantage of repairing of course is that the focus motor is new and quite likely upgraded if it's proven to be troublesome in general, with used you could be in the same position again. It's a bit of a balancing act really.

The replacement lens got very little use.
