Before Scrabble came on the scene, there was Lexicon. I remember having a lot of fun playing that with my parents and brother, though my brother wasn't so keen.
It was playing cards of letters, to be laid down in the same way as the scrabble that followed it. Probably promoted my love of word puzzles.
