We get huge flocks of lapwings here, easily 100+. Sounds like puppies running amok in a squeaky toy factory. Having grown up seeing them on the stubbles of NW Essex, I find it hard to think of them as waders. I guess that's what happens when your biggest natural lake is 16 acres... Our most local flocks are definitely wading, but we also see them up on the hills a lot. Versatile. Can say the same for our oystercatchers and curlew too. They like the school playing fields.

Years ago we would have flocks in their hundreds on our winter stubbles. We never see Curlew here, which is a surprise as you'd think the army ranges would be ideal for them.

I like this thread but, sorry to moan, it would be good if contributors limited the size of their images.
The impact of an image is severely diminished (IMHO) if I have to scroll up/down and sideways to see it.

That doesn't help you but it makes me feel smug!

All my images are sized to 800px on the longest side. If you're having trouble viewing them may I suggest you check your settings are set to size images to fit the screen if you're using a phone or tablet.

There are some in this thread that are 3357x5334 pixels. I'm viewing on a PC with a reasonably high def monitor not a phone or tablet.

You mean the Eagle Owl? The BBC option panel in Flickr allows various size reductions to be displayed besides original, one of the "medium" options is 800 px. I always export 800 px long edge from Lightroom to Flickr, partly because this was a "rule" on the old APforum and partly because someone appropriated a full res picture way back in time and 800 px only prints small at 600 ppi. My browser resizes to fit. I only get full res if I click on the image.

Was unaware there was a size limit or indeed it matered as most screens are set to resize Anyhow, I'll leave you to it Web browsers usually resize so that the width fits the window but vertical scrolling may still be needed. I as a rule don't look closely at anything that doesn't fit my viewing window because it's too big (needs scrolling) or too small (thumbnail which needs expanding). I still use a low res monitor for editing so unless I am inspecting bits at 100% view to check focus, say, I'm probably mostly looking at images that are significantly downsized for display in Lightroom.

Returning from my allotment yesterday, I spotted in the nearby lake what I briefly thought was an albino heron before I realised it must be an egret of some sort. Looks as though it's a great white egret, which have been spotted in the area. May have to take the camera today and see if it's still there. Because, of course, I didn't have a camera with me... the Black Mamba is a bit awkward to carry on the bike.
